MFP - MONEY FOLLOWS THE PERSON
MFP Picture

OVERVIEW
In 2008, Virginia launched Money Follows the Person (MFP) to provide extra supports and services to Virginians who choose to transition from long-term institutions into the community. MFP’s vision is to create a system of long-term supports where funds “follow the person” from the facility to the community by covering extra service needs during the transition process. MFP moves Virginia closer to a rebalanced long-term support system that promotes choice, quality, and flexibility. MFP is a collaboration among numerous state agencies and stakeholders in Virginia. Virginia receives funding and support for this program from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
